Before comparing checkout apps, check which Shopify plan you're on, because it decides what you can install. Shopify only lets apps change the information, shipping, and payment steps of checkout on Shopify Plus. Every plan can customize the thank-you and order status pages, run post-purchase offers through App Store apps, and change payment and delivery options through Shopify Functions. Start there, then pick the app.

What changed in 2025 and 2026
Several deadlines have now passed, which is why many older checkout apps broke or changed:
- checkout.liquid is no longer supported for the information, shipping, and payment steps, and was sunset for the thank-you and order status pages on August 28, 2025.
- Script tags on the thank-you and order status pages were sunset for Plus stores on August 28, 2025 and for other plans on August 26, 2026. Shopify's help center says August 26, 2026 was the deadline for non-Plus stores to upgrade those pages, and paused stores are upgraded automatically.
- Shopify Scripts was deprecated as of June 30, 2026, and published scripts were deactivated. Shopify points merchants to Functions instead.

Smart Checkout Widgets (ours)
Smart Checkout Widgets describes itself as a Shopify checkout customizer for every plan. On any plan, it hides, renames, and reorders payment methods (for example, hiding cash on delivery on large or foreign orders), renames, hides, and sorts shipping rates, and adds trust badges, banners, and FAQs to the thank-you and order status pages. Its Pro plan adds self-serve order editing, so customers can change an address, swap a size, lower a quantity, or cancel within a window you set, on every plan except Shopify Starter. On Plus, it adds checkout upsells, free gifts, a progress bar, and custom fields. It includes eight one-click rule templates. Starter is free up to 100 orders a month; Growth is $29, Advanced $59, and Pro $99 a month, with a 7-day trial on paid plans.
Checkout Blocks (by Shopify)
Shopify's own app is free. On every plan it adds content blocks to the thank-you and order status pages, plus order value limits. On Plus, it adds content blocks and custom fields inside checkout, address validation, payment and delivery method rules, and order or shipping discounts.
ReConvert
ReConvert has the most reviews of any app here. It's free up to 50 orders or $50 of upsell revenue, then $9.99 to $39.99 a month by order volume, with a 14-day trial. It covers product page, cart, thank-you, and post-purchase upsells, and its listing states that "checkout upsells need Shopify Plus."
Zipify OCU
Zipify's one-click upsell app prices by the upsell revenue it generates, from $9.95 a month up to $200 of upsell revenue, rising to a cap of $999. It covers post-purchase, pre-purchase, product page, cart drawer, and thank-you offers, with in-checkout offers marked for Plus. It has a 30-day trial.
Candy Rack
Candy Rack by Digismoothie is $29.99 to $59.99 a month by store order volume, with an 8-day trial. It covers product page, cart, checkout, and post-purchase upsells. Its listing didn't state whether checkout upsells need Plus when we checked, so confirm with the developer if you're not on Plus.
Wiz, Honeycomb, Checkout Plus, Qikify, Blockify
Wiz splits its plans by Shopify plan: Essential ($49) for post-purchase, thank-you, and rules, and Plus Growth ($99) for checkout upsells and trust badges. Honeycomb is a funnel-based upsell app with a free plan of 100 funnel views. Checkout Plus starts at $19 for thank-you pages, rules, and post-purchase upsells. Qikify has a free plan, available on all Shopify plans, for payment and delivery rules and checkout validation. Blockify focuses on checkout rules and fraud blocking, with a free plan for one rule.
Apps we couldn't verify
Aftersell, Upcart, Rebuy, and Selleasy are well-known upsell apps, but their App Store listings showed "This app is not currently available on the Shopify App Store" when we checked on October 21, 2026. That may be temporary or regional. We've left them out of the comparison rather than quote ratings we couldn't confirm.
How to choose
- Start with your plan. If you're not on Plus, ignore in-checkout features and look at thank-you, post-purchase, and Functions-based rules.
- Decide the job: rules (payment and shipping), trust and content, or upsells. Some apps do one well; others cover several.
- Check how pricing scales. Some apps charge by orders, others by upsell revenue, others by funnel views.
- Check overlap. If you already run upsells in the cart, a second upsell app in checkout can show the same offer twice. Our cart drawer guide covers the cart side.
