Best Shopify Cart and Checkout Link Apps in 2026 (Plus How to Build Links With a Discount Code)
What Shopify's free cart permalinks can and can't do, and how seven cart link apps compare on price, reviews, discounts, subscriptions, and tracking, checked against their App Store listings.

Key Signal
One link, full cart
The posts in this archive are written to help Shopify teams identify what is weakening buying momentum, what is suppressing AOV, and what deserves action first.
Disclosure: Cart Rocket, one of the apps below, is made by Thought Bulb, the studio behind HiveSense. We've marked it, and every rating and price here comes from the app's Shopify App Store listing as checked on October 21, 2026.
A cart link (often called a checkout link) turns one URL into a ready cart: chosen products and variants, a discount, and a jump to checkout. It removes several steps between an email, SMS, ad, or creator post and a purchase, which helps most on a phone. Shopify can already build basic cart links for free. Apps add the things permalinks can't do, plus tracking.

What Shopify's free cart permalinks do
Shopify's developer docs describe cart permalinks in the format /cart/{variant_id}:{quantity},{variant_id}:{quantity}. You can add parameters for:
- one or more discount codes (
discount=, comma-separated), - a cart note and cart attributes,
- pre-filled email and shipping address,
payment=shop_payto send shoppers to Shop Pay,storefront=trueto send them to the cart instead of checkout, reffor attribution in reports.
The docs list two limits directly: selling plans don't work with cart permalinks, so you can't add a subscription product, and permalinks can't bypass a storefront password. In the admin, the Buy Button channel can create a checkout link for one variant at quantity 1. Anything with several products means building the URL by hand.
Shopify's shareable discount links (/discount/CODE) are a separate feature. They apply one discount and land on a page you choose, but they don't add products. Discounts created by apps can't get a shareable link from the admin.
How to make a Shopify checkout link with a discount code
Add the discount parameter to a cart permalink. For example, /cart/VARIANT_ID:1?discount=CODE adds the product and applies the code. Shopify's developer docs say you can pass several codes separated by commas, but codes that themselves contain a comma aren't supported. The code has to exist and be active in your Shopify admin.
If you only want to apply a discount, without adding products, use a shareable discount link (/discount/CODE), created from the discount's page in the admin under Promote. You can send it to a specific page with ?redirect=, for example /discount/CODE?redirect=/collections/sale. Each shareable link applies one discount.
Shopify checkout link generators
Shopify's free built-in option is the Buy Button sales channel. Once it's installed, a product's page in the admin has a "Create checkout link" option under More actions. It creates a link for one variant at quantity 1. For several products or quantities, you either build the permalink by hand from variant IDs or use one of the apps below, which act as link generators with a product picker.
Why a Shopify checkout link isn't working
Common causes, based on Shopify's docs and Shopify Community reports:
- The product is a subscription. Shopify's docs say selling plans don't work with cart permalinks.
- The store has a storefront password. Permalinks can't bypass it.
- The discount code contains a comma, or isn't active.
- Line item properties only apply to the first product in the link, per Shopify's docs.
- A discount passed as a query parameter directly on a
/checkoutURL doesn't apply. Merchants in Shopify Community have reported this since 2023; use thediscountparameter on a/cart/permalink instead. - Only one of several products is added. Check that each variant ID and quantity pair is separated by a comma, in the
/cart/{variant_id}:{quantity},{variant_id}:{quantity}format.
When an app is worth paying for
Permalinks are fine for a single offer. An app starts paying for itself when you need:
- Subscription products in a link, which permalinks can't do.
- Discounts that apply without a shareable code, so the offer can't leak beyond the campaign.
- Short links on your own domain and QR codes, without building URLs by hand.
- Orders and revenue per link or per creator, not just clicks.
- Scheduling, order caps, or customer rules on an offer.

Prices are as listed and change often. Several apps have few or no reviews because they launched in 2025 or 2026, so judge them on features and try them on a development store.
Checkout Links
Checkout Links has the most reviews in this group, and its site and listing describe the broadest feature set here: multi-product links, order-level, line-item, free shipping, free gift, and tiered discounts (with cart-line and delivery discounts built on Shopify Functions), a pre-checkout popup option, pre-filled customer details, branded QR codes, links on your own domain, selling plans from common subscription apps, and integrations with Klaviyo, ManyChat, Flow, and POS. It costs $25 a month on one plan. The listing also mentions usage-based charges without detailing them, so check before installing.
ZipLinks
ZipLinks by JAS Technology is $8 a month for unlimited links. It preloads products, supports several discount codes and order notes, and adds UTM tracking. In a Shopify Community thread, its developer says ZipLinks can combine two discounts in one link, which Shopify's native shareable links can't do.
Cart Rocket (ours)
Cart Rocket builds links that apply line-item, cart-wide, and shipping discounts through Shopify's discount engine, so you don't need to share a code. Links can go to the cart page, checkout, or Shop Pay, and can include bundles at one price and subscription products. Creator links (?ref=code) tag each order by creator, and analytics show orders, revenue, AOV, and a checkout funnel per link. Its pricing page also lists short links on your own domain, QR codes, reorder links, pre-filled checkout details from email and SMS merge tags, and a "lock offer cart" option that lets checkout through only with the link's exact products. Basic is $9 a month for one active link, and Pro is $15 for unlimited. It has no reviews yet, having launched in July 2026.
Chex
Chex by Histogramx focuses on scheduled drops: links with a fallback when they're inactive, a cap on total orders per link, discounts, UTMs, and social previews, with clicks, checkout starts, and attributed orders in one dashboard. It's $15 a month or $120 a year.
CCL, 1-Click Checkout Links, and Mika
CCL ($6.99 a month, Built for Shopify) and 1-Click Checkout Links ($4.99) cover unlimited links with discounts and tracking at a low price. Mika: Cart Permalinks is free and lists selling plans, which makes it worth a look if you only need subscription products in a link.
How to choose
- Decide how discounts should work. If a code could leak to coupon sites, prefer an app that applies the discount without a shareable code.
- Check subscriptions. If you sell them, confirm the app supports selling plans, since permalinks don't.
- Look at reporting. Clicks are easy; orders and revenue per link or per creator are what tell you whether a campaign worked.
- Test on mobile from inside Instagram, TikTok, and your email app. In-app browsers can behave differently from Safari or Chrome (see our paid social landing page guide).
- Check what happens when a link expires or the offer ends.
Cart links work well alongside a sensible free shipping threshold and a clear cart. For peak season use, see our BFCM 2026 guide.
FAQ: Shopify cart link apps
What is a Shopify cart link?
A URL that adds specific products and variants to a shopper's cart, can apply a discount, and sends them to the cart or checkout. Shopify supports basic cart links natively through cart permalinks.
Can Shopify cart permalinks include subscription products?
No. Shopify's developer documentation says selling plans don't work with cart permalinks. You need an app that supports selling plans, such as Checkout Links, Cart Rocket, or Mika.
How do I add multiple products to one Shopify link?
Use the cart permalink format /cart/variant_id:quantity,variant_id:quantity with each variant ID and quantity, or use a cart link app that lets you pick products without looking up variant IDs.
Can a Shopify discount link apply two discounts?
Shopify's shareable discount links apply one discount each. Cart permalinks accept several codes in the discount= parameter, and some apps, such as ZipLinks, say they support several codes per link.
What is the cheapest Shopify cart link app?
Of the apps we checked, Mika: Cart Permalinks is free, 1-Click Checkout Links is $4.99 a month, and CCL is $6.99 a month. Shopify's own cart permalinks are free.
Do cart links work with Shop Pay?
Shopify's cart permalinks accept payment=shop_pay to send shoppers to Shop Pay, and some apps, including Cart Rocket, offer Shop Pay as a destination.
Fewer steps between the click and the order
Every step between a campaign click and checkout loses some buyers. A cart link removes most of them. Start with Shopify's permalinks if your offer is simple, and pick an app when you need subscriptions, code-free discounts, or real attribution. For a broader view of where your store loses buyers after the click, run a HiveSense audit.
